To be held during Saturday at Tooting Bec Lido. Details to be posted in due course.
Swimming Stories From Around The World
In addition, all cold water swimming participants, young and old, are invited to come and tell their swimming stories. Stories can be told by individuals or groups and can be about anything from swims involving great personal challenge to the pure pleasure of a regular swim in familiar surroundings. We just want to hear your stories like those below...
- Swimming in Newfoundland and Labrador snow and ice and icebergs whales, seals and polar bears...
- From here to France - how I conquered the channel
- All year round in the Irish Sea - the Forty Foot in Dublin
- In search of Mr Blenkinsop – what my first swimming teacher taught me
Each story is told against a slideshow of 20 self-selected images, each of which is shown for 20 seconds - giving a total presentation time of 6 minutes, 40 seconds. The idea is to keep things moving, keep the interest level up and give more people the chance to tell their stories.
Swimming stories will be scheduled throughout the event in the on-site marquee.
How to put together your swimming story
- Think of a story. Decide what your story is going to be about. Will you tell the story alone or will there be a group of you?
- Decide on a title for your story
- Register your story by January 15th - send the following on an email to pechakucha@slsc.org.uk quoting Swimming Stories – otherwise we cannot guarantee a place on the programme.
- Title of your story
- A 20 word description of your story (in English)
- Name(s) and age(s) of story teller(s)
- Your country of origin
- Language
- Find your images – you will need 20 images in JPEG format (size:1024 x 768 px., landscape orientation). Keep your images under 450 KB each (already compressed).
- Label your images – please label your images with your initials followed by consecutive numbers, i.e. PJ-001.jpg, PJ-002.jpg, PJ-003.jpg, etc. Please practice your story beforehand to make sure your slides are named correctly. Please follow the format, if you don't name your images correctly the computer will order them in a wrong way and it can affect your story. This also makes it easier for us to run the show and handle a large amount of watery images!!
- No later than 1 February 2008 - email us your images to pechakucha@slsc.org.uk – in the following format - 20 images in JPEG format (size: 1024 x 768 px, landscape orientation). Keep your images under 450 KB each (already compressed).
- Prepare your story. You will have 20 seconds to show each image. You have no control over this. It will be programmed on a computer, so you should be fast and we recommend you practice!
- At the Championships – when you have submitted your story you will receive instructions for the event. We will do everything possible to schedule story telling around the races!
