Volunteer

The South London Swimming Club is a members’ club, run by volunteers. It works closely with Wandsworth Council and Places for People who run and manage Tooting Bec Lido to ensure that the pool remains a viable and valued resource within, and for, the community.

We ask ALL members to volunteer in whatever way they can. Being an SLSC volunteer is a great way to meet new people, put names to faces you see at the Lido and generally have a lot of fun. Everyone’s got a skill to share so we’d love to hear from you.

If you’d like to find out more about getting involved in the SLSC come to the Sunday morning races (9.30 every Sunday followed by coffee, cake and chat) or send us an email: volunteer@slsc.org.uk

Below are some of the ways you can help:

  • GENERAL VOLUNTEER: The Club holds many events throughout the year. All these events need stewards, lap counters, marshals and much more. You can help on a one off basis for an event or make a regular commitment for a specific role.
  • STRONG ARMS: There’s a lot of physical work involved in preparing for some events. In particular the annual summer social event in June and the biennial Cold Water Swimming Championships in January. Other events require some setting up and taking down and offers of help are always appreciated.
  • BE PROACTIVE: Check out the event pages to see what coming up and come along and help.

This year we are looking for someone to run our ever popular summer evening Aquathlon Series. If you would like to find out more please email Vanessa on events@slsc.org.uk

If you’d like to get more involved by running an event, making a regular commitment or joining the SLSC committee here are some of the skills needed:

  • Enthusiasm above all
  • A wish to get involved in the Lido community
  • A friendly approach
  • Organising
  • Design
  • Communication
  • Marketing
  • Committee skills
  • Financial skills
  • Dealing with local authority
